The Tudor Rose was the symbol of Mary’s
family. When Mary’s father took the crown,
he also ended the War of the Roses between
the House of Lancaster (whose badge was a
red rose) and the House of York (whose
badge was a white rose). Henry VII (from the
House of Lancaster) married Elizabeth of York
and combined their two family badges to
make the Tudor Rose.
